Mercury Milan Hybrid

By 2008, Milan is scheduled to become Mercury's second full-hybrid vehicle, joining the 2006 Mariner Hybrid, which is set to go on sale this fall. It will also be the fifth full-hybrid offered by Ford Motor Company after the Ford Escape Hybrid, Mariner Hybrid, Mazda Tribute Hybrid and the Ford Fusion Hybrid.

Entering one of the industry's most hotly contested segments, the Milan, with its premium styling and optional V-6 powertrain, is designed to be the "youngest" Mercury vehicle, targeting so-called "Gen-X" customers between 26 and 35 years of age.

While featuring a starting manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of just under $19,000, Milan models equipped with a V-6 engine and class-leading six-speed automatic transmission will begin at $21,995. All prices include destination and delivery charges.

"Milan's upscale, sophisticated styling will set its owners apart, while its unique interior environment and unexpected value will reward their smart choice," said Al Giombetti, Lincoln Mercury president. "Milan gives customers everything they want in a midsize sedan, without giving up style."

Milan will be offered in two array packages, the entry Milan and the Milan Premier, building on the design-led transformation of the Mercury showroom, incorporating Mercury's waterfall grille and satin-aluminum finishes that tie the interior and exterior together.

Milan will represent our first entry level sedan in the mid-size segment in the last 10 years," said Laura Soave Stoppa, Milan marketing manager. "We've been lacking that entry-level vehicle to get younger buyers into the Mercury showroom. Our hope is to be in the 50,000-unit range (cycle year average) with this vehicle, which would be huge for Mercury. Milan's six-speed transmission will also be very unique to this segment, providing a performance boost that should appeal to many customers."

The Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan hybrids are based on a common midsize sedan architecture (CD3). Ford had already indicated that there would be a hybrid version of the Fusion following the Mariner hybrid.
